Independent human rights organisation · GreeceOur purpose

Rights that make
a real difference.

An open, democratic and discrimination-free society must include the people too often pushed to its margins.

Pro Bono Publico works to turn human rights into practical protection for people facing exclusion, racism and barriers to justice. Our work brings together strategic litigation, institutional advocacy, research and legal empowerment.

We focus on the experiences of affected communities, including Roma communities, and on the overlapping forms of discrimination that shape people’s lives. We seek accountability for violations and lasting changes in law, policy and practice.

From rights to action.

Four connected ways to challenge injustice and strengthen access to justice.

01

Strategic litigation

We pursue cases that can protect individuals and produce wider legal, institutional and social change.

02

Institutional advocacy

We engage national, European and international bodies to advance accountability and the effective implementation of human rights standards.

03

Research & documentation

We document discrimination, antigypsyism, environmental and climate injustice, and exclusion to inform legal action and public policy.

04

Legal empowerment

Through community outreach, training and accessible rights education, we support people to understand and defend their rights.

Putting our purpose
into practice.

Community empowerment, legal action and advocacy for institutional accountability.

Community-driven
strategic litigation.

Pro Bono Publico is a partner in EQUAL, a European project supporting marginalised communities and legal professionals to advance rights under EU law, including the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

The project connects community empowerment with training, research, advocacy, community paralegal teams and local legal clinics. Its intersectional approach recognises that people can face several forms of discrimination at once.
